Mentor at a Local School
Walk alongside a child at one of our partner schools.
Make a difference in the life of a student…
…and you’ll see that student make a difference in your life as well.
In addition to family, every student should have people in their life to cheer them on.
Without other caring adults to help them succeed, it makes juggling school, friendships, and life’s challenges much harder.
We’ve been mentoring students in local schools for more than seven years. Our mentors consistently show up, listen well, and point students in a positive direction. We provide the training, curriculum, supplies, and support to help our mentors thrive.
Check back this summer for 2024-2025 mentor applications.
Benefits of Mentoring
Mentoring builds self-esteem, improves academic performance, and positively influences attitudes.
What makes a good mentor?
A good mentor...
- Is consistent, reliable, and shows up each and every month.
- Listens well and asks good questions.
- Is supportive and encouraging.
- Models a growth mindset through curiosity and perseverance.
Here’s how mentoring works...
- All mentors must fill out a mentoring application, attend a training session, and complete a background check before being matched with a student.
- The school provides a designated time for each student to meet with their mentor at school between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. (on days the school is in session).
- Elementary and Middle School mentors commit to meet with their student at least once a month for one hour from October through May.
- High School mentors commit to meet with their student three to four times a month for one hour from October through May.
We will be there to support you every step of the way!
What Mentors Have to Say
"I really enjoyed talking and drawing with my student. As he would draw (usually pictures involving his family), he would tell me things he hoped for in his future."
